Kelly went all Space Oddissy

Richard Kelly could very well been following the footstep, "That's weird" genre, from David Lynch to Cronoberg. Lately it seem Southland tales wasn't well receive from the public , to the critic. Now for he's third feature, he adding some star Cameron Diaz, some X-File element, and finally a box. Here's the review:
Virginia 1971, Lovely young couple was living their own life from the wife teacher Norma Lewis(Cameron Diaz) to the scientist husband Arthur Lewis(James Marsden). Enjoying it each moment, but when they started to have some financial problems. From cuts of the school, to the husband been rejected as astronaut. It seem nothing could save them, except when their door ring, introducing to a very scar 50 year old man calling himself Mr. Steward(Frank Lagella).
Offering them a chance for 1 million dollar, for just pushing a button, that we have the effect that someone in the world will die. Temptation rise, just to free then from their financial wows? And who's he's Mr. Steward? All the secrets lie in the box.
Well i got say, Cameron accent really impressive me here, from her gig as loving mother, to the suspense that follow. Is nice seen her getting some serious acting. James well didn't fit on the whole father and son relationship here, cause he was playing more of a Colombo type. Lagella really bring the mistery of the film, from the way he is introduce, to the way he's not really the villain of the film. The man have he's moment, but here knows he's act.
Now the story really center on the concept of temptation, and the discovery, that only twisted mind can know about. I mean you can really can get the whole(spoiler alert) lightning hitting scenario. Which every government agency is involve to. I mean it did focus much on the viking landing to Mars. But just pushing the button, where the suspense start. And well is not really explain on the whole thing. Kelly can do some strange thing, but here he really went with something that get lost in the mix.
With just minor touch water the effect, it seem Kelly has some sort fascination with water, that till doesn't make sense. i mean he used it on Donnie, but till confuse.
So is best see it with commentary, cause the film doesnt reach anything. You well be a scientist or something to get it. Kelly could very well be in a genre of he's own.
